A new shelter house is being planned at Marion Central Park in memory of a Marion native. The family of Mark Applegate has donated nearly $20,000 to the City of Marion for the shelter house, which is planned to be located in the northeast part of the park, just south of the horseshoe pits.

Thursday was a big day for kindergartners at Marion Elementary School. They had their very own Kinder Ball. Pictured on the front page as they danced in formal clothes are Eli Smith, Kennedy Fahey, Chloe Burkholder, and Luke Dawson.

The primary election for two Marion City Council seats is Tuesday. Katherine DeFilippis, Gerald Henderson, Bill Holdeman, Jerry Kline, and Steven Smith have filed for election.

Marion High School will be well represented at the 3-2-1A state wrestlers’ tournament this weekend. Senior Charlie Holub, sophomores Tyler Neil and Cody and Dillon Wildin, and freshman Andy Shipman, all qualified by finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes.

A feature story tells of a new business, Cardie Oil Tire and Service Center that opened in mid-January at Marion Industrial Park.

The 62nd annual Marion County Conservation District meeting will be Feb. 23 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church, Hillsboro.
