For the first time in recent memory, Marion County had a request for a recount of ballots. The recount was conducted Tuesday afternoon of a recent Marion City Council primary race. Five candidates were vying for two seats on the council with the lowest vote getter being eliminated in the general election.

Chase Bureman, grandson of Matt and Mary Kay Classen of Marion, recently was selected and attended the national Youth Leadership Forum on National Security at Washington, D.C.

The Bailey’s Tavern team placed first in the 47th annual Marion Bowling Association city tournament. The doubles saw Amanda Steward and Scott Steward in first place. Mike Carroll was first in the singles division with Amanda Steward taking first in the all-events division.

A benefit soup supper and auction for Sgt. Ryan Newell and family will be held Sunday at the Marion VFW Post 6959 hone, 420 W. Santa Fe, Marion.

The 2007-08 Marion High School girls’ basketball season ended with the 3A Hillsboro sub-state runner-up plaque. Team members are Chassidy Carlson, Bridget Lundy, Julia Zeiner, Kimber Hardey, Kristen Steinborn, Kayley Heerey, Lauren Helmer, Amanda Richmond, Lindsay Hett, and Danae Edwards.
