At the 38th annual meeting of St. Luke Hospital and Living Center Auxiliary, held Jan. 22 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, attendees were told the hospital auxiliary thrift shop this year made a profit of more than $34,000.

Fifth grade student Zach Fruechting was crowned Jan. 10 as Marion Elementary School’s spelling bee champion. Fruechting will compete Feb. 11 in the county spelling bee. Runner-up fourth grader Tori Smith also will compete in the county bee.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, a series of love stories has been planned by staff writer Adam Stewart. Featured this week are June and Lois Jost of Marion, who have been married for more than 70 years.

Thirty Cub and Tiger Scouts raced and displayed their cars Sunday in Pack 102’s Pinewood Derby. Matthew Christensen won first place, Tristan Armstrong earned second place, and Luke Lanning placed third in the Tiger competition. Cub winners were Zachary Fruechting, first, Janson Garman, second, and Riley Hake, third. Fruechting received the best design trophy and Austin Molleker won the most unique trophy for his replica Wienermobile.
