Nearly 7,500 people attended the Symphony in the Flint Hills Saturday evening on a farm northeast of Florence.

A line of strong thunderstorms pelted Marion County with wind, heavy rain, and hail Monday night and Tuesday morning flooding roads, demolishing buildings, and damaging trees.

Sam Ehrlich, Louis Holt, and Tylor Neil, seniors-to-be at Marion High School, attended the weeklong Boys State at Manhattan May 31 through June 6.

City officials and Marion Economic Development, Inc. have selected Carlsons’ as Marion’s Outstanding Business for 2009. Other nominees were Prairieland Partners, Cooperative Grain and Supply, Duckwalls, Stone City Café, and Zimmerman’s.

Marion Youth Advancement Committee has raised more than $20,000 to establish a youth center. That is enough to purchase a building, but more is needed to renovate and furnish it. The organization’s goal is $30,000.

Designated hitter Brian Fruechting was named to the first team all-league baseball team last week by the Mid-Central Activities Association.
