Fort Riley Military Band will present a concert Aug. 22 at the beach area of Marion County Park and Lake. The event will recognize veterans, firefighters, law enforcement personnel, emergency medical services, and American Legion Riders. Entrance to the concert will be by donation with proceeds going to help with improvements at the lake.

The state-champion Cottonwood Valley 13-year-old All-Stars were eliminated Monday afternoon at the Midwest Plains regional tournament in Burlington, Iowa.

Owner David Weseloh of Midland, Texas, and managers Royce and Sue Webster of Florence are pictured as they review a plan for improvements at the former Florence Health Care Center. Sunshine Residential Center will open Aug. 20, if all goes well.

Ralph and Luella Popp will observe their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 19. The family will celebrate the event at the home of their daughter and husband, Dave and Joanne Loewen of Hillsboro.
