In the past two days articles for publication have been handed us, pro and con on the subject uppermost in the minds of the citizens of Marion — the purchasing of the waterworks plant. The best argument that can be put up is in the pieces of water mains taken up and on exhibition at the office of H.M. Thorp. Go see them.

John J. Siebert has purchased a new windmill and tank and erected them on his farm three and one-fourth miles west of Marion.

About thirty-five people responded to an invitation from Mr. and Mrs. Joe Burkert to attend a surprise party last Thursday night, given up for their father and mother who have just returned from their western trip; and a complete surprise it was to T.P. and his good wife. Soon after the crowd arrived, Mrs. Joe Burkert invited them to sit down to a table well loaded with good things to eat to which they all did full justice. We all welcome Mr. and Mrs. Burkert back home.

The barometer of the masses, Mr. Groundhog, has his inning next Sunday, February 1. If he sees his shadow, fill up your coal bin, and let the ice man get ready to smile, for the weather man soon gets busy.

The five accredited high schools of Marion County have formed a league for the purpose of promoting the athletic and literary spirit in the high schools of the county. The first meeting is to be held at Marion April 10 and 11.
