L.F. Schlotz, who lives 10 miles east of town, was here this morning. Speaking of the condition of the roads recently, he said, “No, I hardly think that they were ever worse. I came to town one day in a spring wagon, and the axles touched the ground.” He has the reputation of being a truthful man.
Al Nienstedt is installing an electric light plant at his country home, and he is putting in one of the best plants on the market. He will use a four-horsepower engine, using either kerosene or gasoline, and will have lights in his house, barn, and all other buildings.
He figures that he will have to run the engine once a week for perhaps six or seven hours to charge batteries for the week. At the same time, the engine will run a washing machine and perhaps other machinery.
A plant of this size, with 50-light capacity, will cost complete, including installation and fixtures, about $500. But after the first cost, it will not be very expensive. And in convenience and service the value would be hard to compute.
A call has been sent to Florence, Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Peabody, and Tampa for a meeting Friday afternoon for the purpose of organizing a county baseball league. There will be a city league, and it is hoped that a good county league will be organized so that there will be “something doing” in the baseball line here this summer.
