Marshal Newcomb having resigned, Mr. Phil Searles has been appointed and confirmed as Marshal of the city. If Mr. Searles makes as good a Marshal as he has a Street Commissioner, the city will be well marshaled.

Capt. Brooker came over from Branch township Wednesday to visit his son Charley, and while here honored the Record with a call.

John Madden, Cottonwood Falls’ well-known lawyer, was attending court in Marion Wednesday.

Mr. C.F. Brooker has entered into partnership with Mr. B.W. Carter, in the furniture business in the Y.M.C.A. building. Mr. Carter has built up a fine business, and now that he has a partner of such excellent business abilities and such personal popularity, as Charley Brooker, it is reasonable to expect that the house will do even better in the future than in the past.
