Marion City Council gave initial approval Monday to the city owning a youth center and paying its insurance expense. Marion Youth Advancement Committee is in negotiations with Jim and Alice Richmond for a building at 331 E. Main St.

Pictured is Jacob Harper as he pitched Saturday for Cottonwood Valley League All Stars in a district tournament game. The Babe Ruth baseball all-stars won the tournament and earned a shot at a state tournament beginning Friday in Ottawa.

Dusty Bina will bring his horse to Marion Senior Center on Friday to celebrate National Day of the Cowboy.

For nearly a quarter of a century, Ray Davidson of Florence has journeyed back to the 19th century, recreating wagon train experiences. His 960-acre ranch is now the official host for Flint Hills Overland Wagon Train, founded in 1979 by Ervin Grant of El Dorado.

Taylor Harms, a sophomore at Marion High School, was selected as champion senior beef showman and reserve grand champion beef showman July 11 at the Tri-County Fair in Herington. Mark and Kim Harms are her parents.
