Five generations gathered at Marion Manor Oct. 4 to wish Joe Scharenberg a happy 100th birthday. They were Joe’s daughter Lois Jost of Marion, granddaughter Gaila Falls and Gaila’s son Jeff Falls, holding his son Alex Falls, all of Little Rock, Ark.

Family reunions reported in this issue include the seventh annual reunion of the Phillip Deines Sr. family; reunion of the Gutsch cousins; 40th annual Bredemeier reunion; annual reunion of descendants of August K.F. and Emma Schwanke Koch; and the second reunion of the Silhan family.

Donna Erpelding of Manhattan was one of two recipients of the 1993 Nancy Landon Kassebaum Awards. She received a monetary award of $2,000 and will be eligible for the Kansas Teacher of the Year award sponsored by the state Department of Education. Erpelding is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Spachek of Lincolnville.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Sunday by Marion Chamber of Commerce at Country Dreams, bed and breakfast inn of Kent and Alice Richmond. The inn is located northeast of Marion.
