Acclaimed television newsman Larry Hatteberg will be the speaker Jan 25 at the Marion Chamber of Commerce annual membership banquet. The annual banquet will be held in the dining room of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Christopher Hett, son of Rocky and Shirley Jo Hett, has been elected president of the Kansas Eta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. Hett is a student at Wichita State University and is employed at the law firm of Martin, Pringle, Oliver, Wallace, and Swartz in Wichita.

Rex Wilson, Marion High School’s cross-country team coach, is pictured showing eight of the nearly 35 trophies and plaques his teams have won during the past 10 years. They have consistently placed in state championship meets.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Scharenberg of Cedar Point will be honored with a reception Jan. 10 in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. The reception will be held at the senior center in Florence and will be hosted by their family.

Three wooden handmade reindeer near Santa’s House in downtown Marion were kicked to pieces sometime during the night Dec. 23, Police Chief Don Keazer reports. Two figures from the Central Park nativity scene also were dumped over, but not damaged.

Tana Hedstrom, Lost Springs, has been named one of seven outstanding students by the Kansas State University College of Human Ecology.
