Carla Stovall, Marion native and Marion High School graduate, will be the Republican nominee for attorney general in the November election. Stovall won the primary by a scant 1,000 votes statewide. Marion County voters gave her 1,436 votes.

A feature in this issue tells the history of Tiemeier’s Grocery Store in Lincolnville. Established in 1887, its 107th anniversary is being observed this month.

A record-high 2,185 books were read by 67 children in the Marion City Library summer reading program. Emmy Bowers read the most with 200, followed by Marion Martinez with 172, and Molly Rhodes with 120.

David Bowers doesn’t really feel that he has “made a difference” in life, but he is the subject this week of Amy Pagenkopf’s column “They made a difference.”

Sue Ehrlich is pictured showing potatoes she grew in her garden at 504 N. Roosevelt. One in her hand weighed 1½ pounds. Others weighed over a pound.
