Marion County Fair Association board of directors is considering a covered entertainment facility, representatives told Marion County Commission members Monday at the regular weekly meeting.

Tentative plans call for a large pole building with a stage. It would have open sidewalls to improve ventilation.

Little Mister 1996, the first baby to be born at St. Luke Hospital in 1996, is Joshua Dakota Britton, son of Michelle Britton of Florence. Joshua was born at 11:31 p.m. Jan. 8. He weighed seven pounds, seven ounces, and was 20 inches long.

Chuck Maggard, senior, was selected as “Student of the Month” by Marion High School faculty. Chuck is the son of Dennis and Janis Maggard.

Last week, when a proposal by the city for use of the local baseball complex was presented to the board of education, it was rejected with a few harsh remarks.

Both city and school officials, however, agreed they should attempt to work out a compromise — which they did this week.

Centre High School’s homecoming queen is Michelle Combs. Votes for king came in tied. Rather than to arbitrarily select one, organizers allowed the vote to stand and Shane Svitak and Kelly Wonser were crowned king.

Jessica Janzen earned a brand-new bicycle by raising $402 in the annual American Heart Association Jump Rope for Heart event at Marion Elementary School. Jessica is a student in the first grade.

Some faces have changed this semester in the Marion High School cheerleading squad. Members are Mandy Hanson, Jodi Thomas, Jenny Groening, Michelle Wessel, and Courtney Goering.
