A PRIDE sign on highway US-56 near the east edge of Marion shows five blue ribbons the town has won, with space remaining for three. These three will be awarded at a Pacemaker banquet in March, then will be placed on the sign.

The city of Marion this week signed a contract for construction of the new cable television system. Completion of the project is expected this spring.

The four Marion County ambulances supervised by the county Emergency Medical Service made 25 runs during December. Twenty of the calls were within the county and five were made to transport patients outside the county.

The Earl Wineinger home, less than a mile south of Marion County Lake dam, burned to the ground early Wednesday morning. The family escaped without injury. The only possessions saved were a few items that were downstairs. Wineinger is the Marion High School vocational agriculture instructor.

According to Lucille Britain, city clerk, 55 building permits were issued during 1977. There were 20 new homes built in the city during 1977, seven new businesses were constructed, enlarged, or remodeled, and a number of garages, patios, porches, carports and storage buildings were built.

Leroy Burton, former Marion High School teacher, is back on the faculty following a 3-year stint teaching and coaching in the United States Department of Defense School in Stuttgart, Germany.
