The picturesque little fountain in Central Park is back in action, spurting—but not wasting—water. Through the combined efforts of ladies from Dawn and Athena clubs, spurred on by Norma Hannaford, who developed the project, funds were solicited to construct a circulating pump for the fountain.

This week’s Personality Profile is about V.L. “Bud” McLinden, who leased his first pasture land when he was 18 years of age, and who continues to make pasture leases and raise cattle.

Marion High School class of 1959 enjoyed a 20th anniversary reunion Saturday. The class has held a reunion every five years since graduation “and this one was the best,” said a loyal ‘59er, who went on to say, “The older you get, the better they get.”

Corn as high as an elephant’s eye is not just a song in Marion County. A field located on the west side of Cedar Street just north of Meisner Bridge over Clear Creek, stands eight feet tall, is tasseled, and has many ears in evidence.

Fastest gun in the west is Larry Lalouette of Cedar Point, who won the U.S. Open Fast Draw Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, and July 4 won the Kansas Blank Elimination Championship at El Dorado.
