Members of Marion Chamber of Commerce and their families will enjoy a picnic Friday evening in Central Park. Speaker of the evening will be Donna Newsom Tabatabai who will tell of her experiences since making her home in Iraq.

A continuance was granted Monday in Marion County District to public defender appointed for Timothy Newfield, charged with first-degree murder of Peabody State Bank teller, Grant Avery.

Rodney R. Williams, owner of Williams Service, International Harvester truck dealership in Florence, is this week’s subject of Ruth Meyer’s weekly feature “Personality Profile.”

Johnny Loomis and his grandmother, Yetiva Young, hauled the most recent entry in the Marion County Record Produce Derby — a 63-pound pumpkin.

A group of large jet airplanes from Kansas Air National Guard will fly over Marion Saturday as part of the Arts, Crafts, and Aircraft Day celebrations.

Piloted by 1968 graduate of Marion High School, CWO Lester Harlan, an Army helicopter from Fort Riley will land at the airport Saturday morning and be available for public inspection.
