Marion Chamber of Commerce served steaks to more than 500 farmers Monday at the annual Farm-City Week steak stag. More than 300 farmers stayed for the entertaining after-dinner program featuring county-western and gospel musician Benny Holtsclaw.
Marion High School’s barbershop quartet went to Emporia High School for statewide competition Nov. 10. The group, composed of Greg Boyle, Brian Bowers, Kevin McGahee, and Brad Seifert, finished fifth out of 15 schools.
The subject of this week’s Personality Profile is Lester Owens, minister at Florence Christian Church.
Owens and his wife are running two sections of classes being taught to volunteers who will staff new ambulances under government operation in place of private ambulances of former years.
The nucleus of the 1978-’79 Cottonwood Valley League champion Marion Warriors basketball team consists of lettermen Brian Allen, Greg Boyle, Kevin Jirak, and Kevin McGahee. Seniors Doug Webb, Gary Ehrlich, and John Dyck join the team.
