Stanley May, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis May of Marion, was injured when the helicopter on which he is a gunner crashed last Wednesday in Vietnam. His parents do not know full details of why the machine crashed, but they do know Stanley suffered a broken arm and brain concussion. He is doing fine, however, and already out of the hospital. Stanley has flown 45 combat missions as a gunner, and is stationed at Qui Nhon.

Bill Finke will celebrate 20 years with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company on Sept. 8. Finke began his career with the telephone company in 1947 as a lineman at Newton and moved to Marion in 1962 where he is lineman and maintenance man.

Carroll H. “Red” Smith, a coach and teacher for 41 years, died Aug. 26 at Rock Hill, New York. Mr. Smith served as coach, physical education teacher, and junior high principal in Marion for two years right after graduation from Southwestern College in 1924.

Barbara Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Christensen of Marion, is one of more than 70 students selected to serve as leaders for freshman seminars this coming year at Kansas State University Manhattan.
