Work is progressing this week on replacing fabled “Dead Man’s Bridge” on a county road south of Marion. The old bridge was washed out in the high water last year. The new bridge will be a fill over a 16-ft. diameter steel tube.

Another downtown improvement project, that of widening Main Street, started this week with the extremely wide sidewalks being narrowed,. This will widen the street by 10 feet and still leave ample sidewalk space. It is hoped to extend the improvement from First Street to the bridge within the next year or two.

Marion High School golfers pleased their supporters and coach Pete Keenan with their performance at the State Sand Greens Tournament. They placed third in the 4-man team event. Team members were George Jackson, Chris Hauser, Lowell Ensey, and Carl Elling.

St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen, celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Thursday morning with a Pontifical Low Mass, a family dinner and an appropriate program.

Keith Just, Marion High School stellar athlete, took first place in the discus throw at the state track meet in Wichita Saturday. His winning toss was 153 feet 10¾ inches. The relay team made up of Maurice Just, Ron Kelsey, Max Jackson, and J.R. Weinheimer took fifth in their event.
