Jackson’s clothing store this week announced the purchase of the Oyer Building on the south corner of Third and Main Sts., and a proposed major expansion of their business. Plans call for a complete remodeling of the building’s lower floor into a much-enlarged department store.

Starting Monday, April 6, the banks of Marion will observe banking hours on Mondays through Fridays of 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and 1 to 3 p.m. Hours on Saturday will be 9 to 12 noon.

Paul Behrendt has filed for the nomination for sheriff of Marion County on the Democrat ticket. He has been a member of the Marion city police force for the past two years, moving from Peabody where he had been a city marshal for five years.

Marion County Spelling Bee will be held April 13 in the Marion City Building basement. Marion Elementary’s entries this year will be Susan Yeagley and Raymon Mayginnes.

The Tasty Grill advertises a third anniversary special on April 11 of seven hamburgers for $1, or 15 cents each, and free coffee all day.

Another landmark is gone from the Youngtown community. Lightning struck and destroyed the barn on the Kaniper farm Wednesday night.
