The days of the old “Grand Central Hotel” and the turn of the century are coming back to Marion next Tuesday evening at the annual Community Guild banquet in St. Mark’s Activity Center on North Cedar St.
The annual “soap” game will be held Friday night. According to Charles Norris, head football coach of the high school, “No ‘hotel’ size bars, and no Lava please,” is the comment the boys make.
Dr. Earl Wood took first place in the championship flight of the Marion Country Club championship tournament of the Labor Day weekend.
First flight top honors went to Bob Edmunds, second flight to Dave Robinson, and third flight to Art Lewerenz. Thirty golfers took part in the tournament.
The lone winner in this week’s Cash Day drawing was Leroy Roberts, Marion, who received $5.
Another “freak of nature” is on display this week at the newspaper office. It is a group of several Irish potatoes shot through with large stems of Bermuda grass. Either the grass grew through the potatoes, or the potatoes grew around the grass. These unusual spuds were brought in by Leonard Pettit of Marion.
