The annual Christmas opening of Marion businesses, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, will be the day after Thanksgiving as has been the custom for the past few years. Christmas street lighting will be turned on that night and there will be two big drawings, one for adults and one for children.

Marion High School seniors will present a three act play, “Deep are the Roots,” this Friday at the City Building. Parts will be played by George Jackson, Darold Longhofer, Judy Pankratz, LaVonda Hett, Rod Oelschlager, Mary Westerhaus, Toni McElwain, Dennis Conyers, Blair Post, Norman Bowers, and Warren Hett. Aiding as student directors are Pat Warneke and Beth Thole.

Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Goertz honored the senior football boys with a steak supper at their home Nov. 11. Those present were George Jackson, Bob Good, Bob Hoch, Norman Bowers, Ladd Siebert, Blair Post, Norman and Byran Alexander, Dennis Conyers, Dave Goertz and coaches LeRoy Drier and Vernon Moore.

Lydia Sommers of Marion received $50 in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Janet Gordon, Marion, missed $10, Wencel Vlk, Marion, received $5, Guy Childs, Marion, received $10, and Mrs. Tom Herzet, Cedar Point, missed $10.

John Loveless, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Loveless, Lincolnville, and James Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Werner Mueller, Tampa, enlisted in the United States Navy October 25 and are attending approximately seven weeks of recruit training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego.
