A spring storm Wednesday afternoon, bringing pelting rain and considerable hail in some areas east of Marion, added to farmers’ apprehension over their wheat crop possibilities for the year.

Seven boys and seven girls, Marion High School students, took part in the first annual Marion Jaycees “Auto Road-E-O Saturday.

Mary Christensen emerged as winner in the girls’ division with a one-point margin over Frances Hunt. Other entrants were Cathy Palmer, Jackie Thomas, Linda Loney, Karen Siebert, and Carol Bowers.

Dennis Highsmith was winner for the boys. Other entrants were Warren Hart, Tom Smith, Mike Jantz, Bob Winchester, Ladd Siebert, and Lynn Applegate.

A reunion of the Class of 1916 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation from Marion High School is planned for 1 p.m. May 29 at Kingfisher Inn at Marion County Lake. Mrs. Glenn Hoover and Mrs. C.A. Pierce are heading the planning committee.

“Tender is the Night: was the theme for this year’s Marion High School junior-senior banquet and prom. It was created throughout in the atmosphere of Old Rome.

Mrs. George Nelson, Marion, received $150 at this week’s Cash Days drawing. Other winners were Gladys Queen and John Hass, both of Marion, who received $5 each. Mrs. Wayne Tipton and Mrs. C. Geisbrecht, both of Marion, missed $20 each.
