The Marion mile relay team set a new record Saturday at the Kansas indoor track meet at Manhattan. The boys from Marion were clocked at 3:36 breaking the record of 3:40.3 set in 1955 by Scott City. Members of the Marion team are Bledsoe, Christensen, Roberts, and Vogel. At the same meet, Billy Mills of Haskell Institute ran the mile in 4:23.3 and broke Glenn Cunningham’s mile record of 4:24.7 set in 1930.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Higgins purchased the Marion Pharmacy and took over operation of the business Thursday. A graduate pharmacist, Jerry has been working for the past five years at Valley Center.

Ronnie Hiebert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hiebert of north of Marion, is on the pitching staff of the Emporia State Hornets baseball team.

Mr. and Mrs. Gail Merrill are having entire new fronts built in their two business locations at Second and Main now occupied by Harry Wiebert’s Owl Car and a storage room used by Bud’s Conoco.

Roger Hannaford, who received his BS degree from Emporia State College in January, has been hired to teach social studies in the Junior High School at El Dorado next year.

Three Marion students, Lenore Wheeler, Diana Herbert, and Marlys Rupp have been named to the first semester dean’s honor roll at the University of Wichita.
