A new regulation effective July 4 will bring enthusiasts for another sport to the Marion County Park and Lake. Water skiing and surfboarding, or aquaplaning. will be permitted on Thursday, along with the regular speedboat days.

The first wheat cut in the Marion community this year was received at the Aulne Grain Co. Friday afternoon. A photo shows Andrew Seibel as he unloads the hopper of his combine into his truck preparatory to taking it into Aulne.

Bess Haizlip was successfully surprised on her birthday June 20 when her mother, Mrs. A.W. Haizlip, and her sister Sue planned a party in her honor. Invited guests were Margie Winter, Carol Conyers, Joyce Remmers, Lou Wheeler, Lucinda Hauser, Karen Thole, Sue Summervill, Beverly Pankratz, Ethel Brunner, Kathy May, Sue Ann Bratton, Ruth Muck, and Annabelle Bass.

Del Mar Café, Marion, operated by Mrs. Bertha Mailen, was broken into over the weekend and 37 cartons of cigarettes and 50 pennies taken.

The first annual county 4-H Garden Show was held in Marion last Wednesday. Irvin Brunner and John Bernhardt of the Ramona Red Chiefs 4-H Club are pictured on the front page with contest judge Al Heidebrecht, co-owner of Al and Dan’s Quality Market. “This is first-class chard,” Heidebrecht said of Brunner’s blue ribbon entry. Bernhardt also is a winner from the Ramona club.
