Good, fast baseball, clean sportsmanship, perfect weather, and outstanding attendance have marked the progress of the Kansas State Championship Babe Ruth tournament currently being held at the Marion Athletic Association ball park.

Two brand new school buses of the latest type were ordered last week b the school board of Marion District No. 1. The buses were badly needed to take care of the increasing number of students from the area around Marion who will be coming to school here.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Covey announce the engagement of their daughter, Judy Maxine, to Mr. Eugene Waner, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Waner. Both will be seniors at Marion High School next year.

Mrs. Helen Navrat, Pilsen correspondent: “Grasshoppers are plentiful. Sprays and powders check some. I believe a faster way would be to catch them. Anyway, the gardens are slowly disappearing, as are some of the row crops.”

Marion’s American Legion baseball team came up with wins over Florence and Herington this weekend to take second place in the south half district tournament at Emporia. Earl Janzen has accepted the position as coach of the team next year. The position of manager, handled this year by Alex Case Jr., has not yet been decided.

Several pupils of old District 55, taught by Mrs. Bess Burkholder Harrison some 44 years ago, had a reunion Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J.H. Winkley as guests of Mrs. Louis Larsen, one of the former pupils.
