May 23 promises to be a big day in Marion. The spring livestock show will be in the morning at the athletic grounds on the east edge of Marion. There will be a gigantic all-day implement show, livestock judging contests in the afternoon, a big pit barbecue at 5 p.m., and a horse show in the evening. Also, there will be an all-day sidewalk bazaar on downtown streets.
In April, 1962, the city issued bonds to construct a new lagoon- type sewage disposal plant, now completed just south of town; a new squat-type water tower, now located on the athletic field grounds on the east edge of town; and a new water distribution system that will be in operation in about three weeks. The people of Marion are counting the days.
The Marion Warriors track team took second place at a league meet in Hillsboro last Saturday. Pictured team members are Dick Hamlin, Max Jackson, Bob Olsen, Bob Boese, Dennis Swanson, Larry Fowler, Max Miller, Bob Elling, Bob Hoch, and Gilbert Johnson.
A picture on the front page was snapped by Don Buethe as a tornado April 22 roared past the Ed Broz ranch three miles east of Buethe’s farm. The storm did considerable damage, but no one was injured.
