Long-delayed winter let Marion County residents know this week that it was back in full force. Temperatures reached 8 to 10 degrees below in Marion and 12 to 14 below at Marion County Lake. This was followed by misty rain, ice, and blowing snow that accumulated to several inches and drifted to several feet in places.

A new egg-gathering industry was demonstrated this week by Mr. and Mrs. Don Fruechting and their three boys at their farm in Aulne. They are now gathering more than 6,700 fresh eggs daily from hens in modern laying houses.

Shown are Fruechting and his sons, Terry, Kevin, and Michael, as they gather eggs from a total of 8,900 hens with the help of a garden tractor and trailer.

Bill Finke, Marion, Southwestern Bell Telephone service representative, has won Bell’s 1965 outstanding community dial office award for service, safety record, record sales, and production.

Dennis Highsmith, center of pep and spirit on the Warriors’ B-team, is featured in the Basketball Spotlight column this week.

The sixth grade at Marion Elementary will present the operetta, “Alice in Wonderland,” April 15. Marilee McGinness will play Alice. Supporting actors include Glen Bartel, Henry Bingaman, Brent Colle, Mike Edmunds, Billy Finke, Shirley Hamm, Dennis Helmer, Teresa Hett, Sandra Hoover, Mike Jackson, Brad Kimball, Douglas Marler, Randy Perkins, Ricky Schwendiman, Steve Warkentin, and Dianne Weber,

Jean May and Sandy Marler were surprised Friday when a card they had attached to a helium balloon launched March 10, 1965, was returned Jan. 28. It came from a boy who found the balloon Jan. 21 in a tree while cutting wood near Silva, Missouri, more than 500 miles away.

Jane Wilkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wilkins of Navarre, became the bride of Dwight Gooding, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pegorsch, Jan. 16 at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Robert H. Klose was honored with a farewell dinner Jan. 23 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klose. Robert left the next day for duty in Germany.
