Jess Coons, Marion’s hardball team manager, has issued a call for the team’s opening workout for 2 p.m. April 10. Other teams in the 6-team Cottonwood Valley Baseball League are Peabody, Canton, Emporia, Newton, and Hillsboro.

Roy Powell, a native of Ohio, is the new manager of the Kaw Theatre. He replaces Paul Ellsberry who has gone to a drive-in theatre near Kansas City.

Work is progressing this week on building a foundation retaining wall on the Main Street hillside property of Dr. C.R. Magee. Plans have been in the making to build a modern building to house his office on this attractive location across from the park.
