Marion City Commission this week voted to hire an engineering firm to conduct an electrical survey of the town. The engineering firm will trace the entire primary system of electrical distribution then will recommend to the city how the system can be improved to safeguard against low voltage.

According to Louis Thompson, minister of the Church of Christ congregation, the most recent addition to Marion’s church families, they have secured a large tent from their McPherson congregation in order to conduct a week of tent meetings in Marion Aug. 8-14.

The “Scoundrels,” popular Marion rock ’n’ roll combo, will play for a Jaycee-sponsored dance at the Marion County Lake Hall August 11.

Two persons were present this Wednesday to claim monetary prizes at Marion Cash Days. Harriet Bina of Marion received first prize of $200 and Mrs. Leroy Roberts, Marion, received fifth place prize of $45. Paul Gentry, Florence, missed $5; Howard Groening, Marion, missed $25; Dori Hicks, Cedar Point, missed $10.

Now that the proposed stadium has been approved by the majority of the voters of Marion Unified School District #408 more detailed plans will need to be submitted by the architect. No attempt will be made to have the facility ready for this season.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lewis and young grandson, Mike Hoffner, are pictured with a big 41-pound catfish caught Thursday night on trotlines near Strong City. The fish was one of seven caught on trotlines that night. Two of the seven weighed 25 and 32 pounds respectively.
