A mitten tree in the east window at Farm and Home Electric Store is attracting considerable attention. The tree is adorned with mittens and gloves of every size, color, and description and will be presented to the Guild by its sponsors at a Christmas program Sunday evening. The mittens will be sent soon after Christmas to Miss Elizabeth Wiebe, a missionary teacher at Neustedt, French zone, in Germany.
Seven Marion High School students topped the honor roll for the second six weeks by making four straight A’s each. Four are freshmen — Juanita Ford, Mary Margaret Hannaford, Alice Ward, and Sarabel Wolf. The other three are juniors Max Merrill, Kathryn Popp, and Verona Vinduska.
Navy Lt. Charles Hayen of Washington, D.C., made a flying visit to Marion early this week on his way to Topeka, where he will compete for a Rhodes scholarship.
Darlene Oblander celebrated her eighth birthday with a party Nov. 30at her home. Guests were Jan Blackwelder, Bernadean Broadstreet, Marilyn Dixon, Mary Williams, Gaila Jost, Brook Montgomery, Susan Thiel, Margo Webster, Joan Johnson, Rita Miser, Mollie Brodhead, and Carol Hollar.
