The Junior-Senior Banquet April 20 in the high school gym followed the theme “Streets of Paris.” The program was highlighted by a talk by Max Jackson, president of the local Chamber of Commerce. Music for the prom was by The Tophatters, an Emporia State College dance band.
Citywide aerial spraying of trees and buildings against cankerworms, flies, moths, etc. probably will take place Tuesday or Wednesday, weather being favorable.
The 2nd Armored Cavalry recruiting office in Augsburg, Germany, has announced that Sergeant Elmer Madsen of Peabody has enlisted for another six years.
Madsen earned a Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in action on Luzon in the Philippines in 1945.
The first in a proposed series of annual stunt nights sponsored by the Community Guild was attended by a large audience Friday in the City Building and pronounced a success.
The police radio again proved its worth Thursday when a car theft was cleared up within 45 minutes.
A report of the theft came from Salina at 8:40 a.m. At 9:25 a.m., the McPherson radio reported that state troopers apprehended the wanted man, an AWOL soldier from San Antonio, Texas.
