‘Success Tour’ seeks ideas to improve schools

Staff writer

Nearly 50 people, including Marion High School students, participated Thursday in state education commission Randy Watson’s “Success Tour” at the Sports and Aquatic Center in Marion.

The tour, with stops statewide, focuses on evaluating what education from kindergarten through 12th grade education lacks.

It started in July and ended Thursday in Shawnee Heights.

Watson said frequent suggestions were reorganizing school systems to focus more on individual students, hiring more social workers and psychologists, involving the local community more, and include learning outside of academic areas and through active involvement.

“Every kid has value,” he said. “Without intervention, no one can see that value.”

Results from the poll will be available after the tour to attendants who submitted their email with check-in at stops.
