REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Indigo and 170th Rds.

Lloyd A. Funk, 88, rural Hillsboro, pulled his northbound Case farm implement to the right to allow traffic to pass at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 28 but then turned left into a passing 2017 Nissan Versa owned and driven by Anastasia G. Vieyra, 28, Hutchinson.

Vieyra’s car remained drivable with damage to its passenger side while Funk’s implement sustained no damage, according to deputy Bruce Burke’s report, released Friday.

The report blames the collision on Funk’s inattentive driving and failure to yield, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

2nd and Walnut Sts., Peabody

A 2002 Ford F-350 left parked in front of Peabody Market at 7:14 p.m. Sept. 1 somehow ended up backed into a wall across the street at Vintage Bank Kansas.

The truck, owned by Edd L. Coover, rural Peabody, remained drivable with damage to its rear third and undercarriage.

The accident was investigated by sheriff’s deputies because no Peabody police were on duty.

Upland and 360th Rds.

Fifteen-year-old Noah M. Brunner, rural Lost Springs, was injured but not taken to a hospital after he stopped his northbound 2008 Honda CR-V at a stop sign at 7:23 p.m. Sept. 1 and proceeded into the intersection, hitting a westbound 2005 Nissan Titan owned and driven by Max W. Morgan, 52, rural Ramona.

Paula M. Morgan, 70, of the same rural Ramona address was a passenger in the Nissan.

Deputy Jesse Raney blamed the accident on Brunner being blinded by the setting sun after looking west and not seeing the approaching Nissan when he then looked east.

Raney’s report also states that the 15-year-old had no restrictions on his license, but this could not be verified because the license number was redacted.

No tickets were issued.

Both pickups sustained disabling damage to their front halves and undercarriage, ran off the road after the collision, and were towed.

HILLSBORO

Jost Hall parking lot,
Tabor College

A hit-and-run driver damaged the right rear bumper of Tabor volleyball player Macy E. Rowan’s parked 2022 Ford Edge between 8 a.m. Aug. 30 and 9 p.m. Sept. 2.

Rowan, 21, of Wiley, Colorado, reported the damage at 8:57 a.m. Sept. 3.

Broken pieces of a red reflector from the suspected hit-and-run vehicle were found on the ground near the parked car, owned by Semco Inc. of Lamar, Colorado.

Campus Recreation Center parking lot, Tabor College

A 2023 Nissan Sentra and a 2012 Ford Fusion driven by Tabor football players collided at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 31 while the drivers were maneuvering around a boom lift occupying two parking spaces.

Both waited until Sept. 3 to report the accident.

Nissan driver Jarien J.D. Allen, 22, Crawford, Florida, said Ford driver Tadarius J. Jett, 23, Atlanta, Georgia, sped up to get around him as he made a wide turn to get around the lift. For his part, Jett said Allen made a U-turn and pulled out in front of him.

The Nissan, owned by Allen, sustained damage to the right corner of its front bumper. The Ford, owned by fellow Tabor football player Isaac Bates of Kearney, Missouri, sustained damage to its left rear fender.

MARION

300 block of N. Freeborn St.

Barbara J. Johnson, 81, Florence, was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident after her 1990 Chevrolet C1500 allegedly ran off the right side of the road at 8:54 a.m. Sept. 3 and struck a mailbox owned by Patricia S. Kline.

The pickup sustained minor damage to its passenger side.
