These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
US-77 south of 140th Rd.
Howard D. Heslet, 73, Marion, hit a black cow at 6:02 a.m. March 14 with his 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, which sustained disabling damage to its front and was towed.
One of six accident reports released Friday states that Heslet might have been injured, but the report does not indicate whether he was taken to a hospital.
Radio transmissions indicate that Marion ambulance and, briefly, Tampa ambulance were sent to the accident.
US-50 west of Pawnee Rd.
Strong winds blew a 2023 Volvo 200 semi-trailer truck onto its left side at 1:51 p.m. March 14.
The semi, owned by New Prime of Springfield, Missouri, and driven by Tyrone K. Frye, whose address was not released but who holds an Alabama commercial driver’s license, was towed.

K-150 east of Clover Rd.
A wind gust at 2:25 p.m. March 14 tipped a 2015 Kenworth semi-trailer truck owned by Walkenhorst Transportation of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, onto its left side.
Driver Gary D. McDannald, 57, Overland Park, was listed as injured, but a report of the accident does not indicate whether he was taken to a hospital.
Radio transmissions indicate he was taken by Marion ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
The semi was towed.
Plum St. south of Peabody
Trevor E. Williams, 29, Junction City, reported at 8:57 a.m. March 16 that he had bottomed out his 2020 Honda Civic, activating its airbags, while crossing railroad tracks at 4 p.m. March 14.
His car sustained damage to its left front, undercarriage, and windshield but remained drivable.
Deputy Peyton Heidebrecht’s accident report states that Williams was driving south on Plum and that the tracks were 150 feet north of 2nd St., but no tracks are at that location.
Union Pacific tracks are a few feet east of Plum on 2nd and Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks are considerably south of 2nd on Plum St. extended.
Later in the accident report, Heidebrecht states that the accident occurred after Williams hit a pothole.
Williams reported that Kathleen J. Featherstone, 25, of Reno, Nevada, was a passenger at the time.
US-56/77 south of 220th Rd.
Alex Rodriquez, 71, Herington, hit a deer at 7:16 a.m. March 19 with his 2013 Volkswagen Passat, which sustained disabling damage to its front and was towed.
Briana R. Railing-Rodriguez, 47, of the same Herington address was listed as a passenger.
Holly Rd. south of 190th Rd.
Aidan A. Simmons, 18, rural Hillsboro, told authorities he woke up at 1:04 p.m. March 19 as a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving in snow and wind swerved into a ditch and struck a group of trees.
The pickup, owned by Louis J. Simmons Jr. of the same address, remained drivable with damage to its left front.
MARION
1000 block of Melvin St.
At 4:36 p.m. March 17, Jerry E. Tajchman, 59, Marion, backed his 2017 Ford F-150 out of a parking space south of St. Luke Hospital and into the side of an eastbound 2005 Ford F-150 owned and driven by James P. Lafrad Jr., 64, Marion.
An accident report by officer Aaron Slater used code numbers to indicate Tajchman was not at fault. According to the report, Tajchman told Slater had not seen Lafrad’s vehicle because Lafrad had stopped to wait for a pedestrian to cross.
Damage to the left rear of Tajchman’s truck was characterized as minor. Damage to the driver’s door area of Lafrad’s truck was more extensive, but the truck remained drivable.
Majorie A. Tajchman, 64, of the same Marion address was a passenger in Tajchman’s truck.
