REPORTED
These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
Spruce St. south of 5th St., Peabody
An unlicensed 14-year-old driver rear-ended a car driven by a 15-year-old not complying with her license restrictions at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 30 after the 15-year-old attempted to brake, according to a report released 11 days afterward by the sheriff’s department.
The 14-year-old and a 15-year-old passenger in the other vehicle then fled, according to deputy Peyton Heidebrecht’s report.
The older driver complained about shoulder pain after the accident. According to monitored transmissions, dispatchers said the driver had told them she had hit her head on her car’s steering wheel. She was checked by Peabody firefighters, who reported she had not hit her head. She declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
Heidebrecht’s report identifies the 14-year-old driver as Dominik E. Galleher of rural Peabody. An 11-year-old, identified as Aliyah J.J. Galleher of the same address, was listed as a passenger in the 2015 Toyota Prius he was listed as driving.
The Prius, owned by Leroy D. Koehn of Newton, sustained damage characterized as minor to its front end.
The 15-year-old driver, identified as Galleher’s neighbor Kaylee M. Reynolds, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry owned by Carol A. Reynolds of the same address.
Abigail M. Gfeller, also 15, was listed as the passenger who fled the Camry. The car sustained damage to its rear end that was characterized as minor.
Heidebrecht’s report blamed the wreck on Dominik Galleher following too closely and being unlicensed along with other factors, and on Kaylee Reynolds’ vehicle having problems with its brakes.
No tickets were listed as being issued.
Although the names of juveniles accused in criminal cases typically are withheld by law enforcement, state law provides no such special treatment for juveniles involved in wrecks and traffic offenses.
No explanation for the sheriff’s delay in reporting the accident was offered. The accident officially was classified as a hit-and-run injury accident.

An eastbound sport-utility vehicle returning to its lane after slowing to turn left sideswiped a semitrailer truck attempting to pass it on the right at 3:12 p.m. Oct. 4, according to one of two accident reports released Friday by the sheriff’s department.
Deputy Corey Unruh’s report blamed the wreck on failure to properly signal a turn by SUV driver Robert D. Magathan, 77, Marion. No tickets were listed as being issued.
Magathan’s 2021 Buick Encore was listed as destroyed with damage to its passenger side.
The semi, a 2025 Kenworth W990 owned by Farmers Oil of Anthony and driven by Steven V. Hurst of Joplin, sustained what was characterized as minor damage to its driver’s side.
HILLSBORO
Washington St. south of A St.
Two vehicles being backed by drivers in their 70s out of driveways across the street from each other collided at 11:07 a.m. Friday.
Jeffrey D. Seigel, 73, was backing his 2021 Buick Encore east out of a driveway at 405 S. Washington St. and failed to see Linda J. Essau, 75, who had just backed her 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe west out of a driveway at 406 S. Washington St. and begun heading south.
Damage to the left rear of both vehicles was characterized as minor.
Officer Duane McCarty’s report blamed the wreck on inattentive driving by Seigel. No tickets were listed as being issued.
Jan L. Seigel, 75, Hillsboro, was a passenger in Seigel’s Buick. Beverly A. Harms, 72, Hillsboro, was riding in Essau’s Chevy.
Eagle Rd. north of 130th Rd.
Sheriff’s deputy Clayton J. Philpott, 27, Peabody, hit a deer at 10:23 p.m. Saturday with this 2022 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle.
The cruiser remained drivable with damage to its right front bumper and right quarter panel.
Randy Brazil, Hillsboro’s assistant police chief, was called to provide an independent investigation of the wreck.
Philpott previously hit deer two other times — once with a 2018 Dodge Durango cruiser while speeding to a wreck July 17, 2024, near 160th and Nighthawk Rds. and earlier with a 2015 Ford F-150 police cruiser March 31, 2024, on Cedar St. north of Kellison St. in Marion while speeding to another accident at the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout.
