Allen Schlehuber

A graveside service for Allen Edward Schlehuber, who passed away May 24, 2023, at age 91, is planned for 9 a.m. today, March 31, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery on N. Adams St. in Hillsboro.

A come-and-go, come-as-you-are reception to share time with family and friends will follow from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church parish hall in Hillsboro.

He was born Nov. 9, 1931, in Hillsboro to Herbert and Katherine (Kohfeld) Schlehuber. He was the third of four children.

He married Alma Laubhan of Durham on Jan. 18, 1953. Their marriage lasted nearly 70 years.

Allen was a lifelong local resident and the third generation to make his living on the Schlehuber family farm and ranch four miles west of Hillsboro.

He enjoyed his occupations. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his incredible can-do work ethic, and his ability to fix about anything.

His innovative mind gave him the ability to be a real problem-solver, making many tasks easier for himself and others.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; parents Herbert and Katherine (Kohfeld) Schlehuber; sisters Eleanor Harder and Lorene Herbel; and brother Paul Schlehuber.

He is survived by son Merle Schlehuber and his wife, Marolyn; granddaughter Maci (Schlehuber) Ellison and her husband, Taylor; two sister-in-laws, Lorene Shumaker and Julie Werdonn, as well as nieces and nephews.
