Centre board OKs $157,000 for projects

Staff writer

With a capital outlay fund flush with money, Centre’s board approved several projects Monday to improve facilities.

After several months of hearing from lighting experts, the board approved a contract with Energy Solutions Professionals of Overland Park to replace all of the lighting in school facilities with LED lighting at a cost of $97,590.

In addition, the board approved several summer projects totaling $59,516, including the replacement of several windows in agriculture and elementary classrooms, the southwest double doors, and the southeast gym door and frame.

The board approved a contract with architect Vince Haines of Gravity Works, El Dorado, to provide guidance in drawing up plans for possible building projects, including a new multi-purpose building at the football field.

Purchase of a 72-inch John Deere mower and attachments was approved at a cost of $13,092.

New basketball uniforms were purchased from DSN Sports for $8,272.

Several calendar changes were approved. The 2019-20 school year will begin Aug. 16 instead of Aug. 15 to allow teachers to take a defensive driving course. A 2 p.m. release date the first and third Wednesday of each month will provide time for teachers to study student academic data to determine where their students need more help.

Personnel

Alumnus Tim Vinduska was hired as high school social studies teacher and Bertina Barrett as kindergarten teacher for next year. Resignations were accepted from Brandon Meyer as concessions manager and Ashley Watchorn as an elementary aide.

Leo Jirak’s part-time employment as technical assistant will be expanded to full-time next year. Mary Miller will be concessions manager, and Rita Brunner will be a pre-school aide.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:46 p.m.
