Centre girls win first game

The Centre volleyball team won its first game of the season last week at Inman.
“It feels good to start the season with a win,” coach Karen Nickel said.
They lost the first match 19-25 and won the next two, 25-18 and 25-14, for the win.
Centre won the second match of the second game, 25-17, but lost the first, 16-25, and the third, 15-25.
“Their hitters were more aggressive and we struggled to fill some holes,” Nickel said. “My team worked hard and never gave up.”
Alyssa Espinoza served for 24 points, including 7 aces. She had 6 kills, 22 spikes, 8 assists, and a perfect 37 of 37 sets.
Other leading servers were Emma David, 17 points; Kaitlyn Hudson, 8; and Lexis Brewer, 7.
Samantha Espinoza served for 7 points and had 9 kills, 31 spikes, and 24 sets.
Gracie Luna had 8 hits, 2 assists, and 10 sets, and Carly Deines had two kills and 18 spikes.
The Cougars played Goessel and Herington at home Tuesday.
