Centre does not designate top graduating seniors as valedictorian or salutatorian, but three of this year’s seniors will graduate with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages throughout their four years of high school.

They are Kate Basore, Max Svoboda, and Cole Srajer.

“My parents were very firm in their expectations of me to do well in school,” Kate said. “Really, I just wanted to make them proud.”

Max said his parents instilled in his mind a value for education from early childhood.

“I was motivated to excel in academics,” he said.

Cole said he didn’t know what led him to do well.

“I just do what needs to be done,” he said.

Kate enjoyed health science classes, especially biology and anatomy/physiology. That’s probably why she plans to pursue a medical degree.

Max enjoyed math, science, and speech, and Cole liked strength and conditioning classes, along with math.

Kate said subjects like English and math came naturally to her, but science classes required more study time.

Max and Cole both said they didn’t study much to get good grades, but Max said college courses required a “considerable” amount of time.

All three were active in extra-curricular school activities. They all were in Future Business Leaders of America all four years and were members of National Honor Society for two years. They held numerous class and organization offices.

Kate played volleyball, basketball, track, cross-country, and participated in forensics, powerlifting, and cheerleading.

Max played football, basketball, and track, and participated in scholars’ bowl, powerlifting, drama, choir, and debate.

Cole played basketball and baseball and participated in powerlifting.

Kate couldn’t decide what her greatest achievement was, but she is proud of becoming a state FBLA officer and placing at state track in javelin for two years.

Max is a devout Catholic and named First Reconciliation and Communion and Confirmation as his highest achievements. He also is proud of his academic achievements. He was Top of the Class all four years and was named a Kansas Honor Scholar and Kansas Governor’s Scholar.

Cole takes pride in achieving all-state status in baseball and basketball and being first overall at state powerlifting in his weight class.

Kate plans to attend Sattler College in Boston, Massachusetts, and pursue a pre-med course.

Max plans to attend Kansas State University and major in engineering with a nuclear option.

Cole also plans to attend KSU and major in business or finance.
