Centre track takes 11 gold medals at Central Christian

Centre track has a limited roster, but that has yet to stop the athletes so far this season.

The Cougars eight athletes had another strong showing April 8 at Central Christian, taking 11 first-place medals, and earning another four medals.

Jensen Riffel and Xavier Espinoza led the way, with each taking the top spot in three events. Those performances helped pave the way to a third-place showing for the Cougars, who tallied 64-points.

The girls also had three first-place finishes, including the 4-by-100-meter relay. They placed seven times, earning 42 points for a fourth-place finish as a team.

Boys top finishers: Shot put, Riffel first place, 42-feet-11-inches; discus, Riffel first place, 123-feet-3-inches; javelin, Riffel first place, 147-feet; long jump, Xavier Espinoza first place, 19-feet-5-inches; 100-meter, Espinoza first place, 11.66 seconds; 400-meter, Espinoza first place, 54.97 seconds; 1600-meter, Aidan Svoboda first place, 5:19.87; 3200-meter, Tanner Stuchlik first place, 13:31.79.

Girls top finishers: 4-by-100-meter, first place, 54.81; 4-by-400-meter, second place, 4:53.58; long jump, Carly Deines first place, 14-feet-3¼-inches, Samantha Espinoza third place, 13-feet-8-inches, Cailey Barney, fourth place, 13-feet-4¾-inches; triple jump, Alyssa Espinoza first place, 31-feet-5-inches; 400-meter, Cailey Barney second place, 1:12.79.
