Child service groups get grants

Two agencies serving Marion County children who are victims of crime, abuse or neglect or need violence prevention services, received $57,726 in state money Thursday to continue their work.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of the 8th Judicial District received $9,576.

CASA recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to advocate in court for abused and neglected children. Volunteers provide information to assist judges in making the best decision for each child.

Grant money will be used to train staff and volunteers to help children find permanent and safe homes.

Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center received $48,150.

Headquartered in Newton, Heart to Heart serves children in Harvey, McPherson, and Marion counties.

It helps identify and address physical, emotional, and mental needs of children who have experienced significant trauma from physical, emotional and sexual abuse and link them to appropriate services.

Money for both grants came from the state general fund.
