Community invited to share talents

Sunflower Theatre is inviting area residents to share their talents at an open mic 2:30 to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peabody Feb. 22. Snacks and beverages will be available.
Organizer Becki Yoder said the open mic had become a laid-back, family-friendly way to spotlight local performers of all ages, from grade-schoolers to longtime community members.
“Last year we had everything from kids singing Taylor Swift to a local bird watcher who turned out to be a concert-level pianist,” Yoder said. “You get these people that surprise you, like, you didn’t know they did that.”
Participants are welcome to sing, read poetry, play instruments, dance, rap, or share other talents. They may sign up in advance by calling Yoder at (316) 772-2314.
Events like the open mic help keep the arts visible in Peabody, while Sunflower Theatre continues fundraising and planning to restore its downtown building.
“Giving people a stage builds community,” Yoder said.
