County approves
cell tower at Durham
A new Verizon cell phone tower was approved Tuesday by county commissioners.
The 355-feet tower will be installed near Durham.
Commissioner chairman David Mueller asked how the tower would improve coverage, but applicant James Cardinal did not have a definitive answer.
Arlene Stitka, a frequent camper at Marion County Lake, told commissioners she disagreed with a decision they earlier made to put signs up for privately owned docks.
“I feel that the county is taking too much responsibility for the docks out there,” Stitka said. “I feel the responsibility for the docks should be on the owners. The county doesn’t have any responsibility for those docks.”
Stitka asked why someone who does not “use those stinking docks” should have to pay for signs.
Commissioners appointed ambulance director Chuck Kenney as interim director until a replacement is hired. Kenney resigned as director last month.
Mueller said many applications had been received, and candidate interviews were expected to begin soon.
Kenney is the fourth ambulance director to have resigned in five years.
