COVID numbers dip from prom high

This past week brought relief after a steep uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases the week before.
The county health department Tuesday reported 11 new cases of COVID-19. This was less than half the 28 new cases reported April 27.
The county now counts 1,079 total cases of the virus over the last year. By the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s count, there have been 1,098 cases.
An outbreak in Hillsboro accounted for many of the cases reported April 27.
The KDHE website now lists Hillsboro High School as having a cluster of 11 cases during the past 14 days.
As of Tuesday evening, the health department reported that 16 people remained in isolation.
To date, 2,446 people have been vaccinated by the health department.
A vaccination clinic will be Tuesday by appointment only.
Appointments can be made by calling the health department at (620) 382-2550 or by going to the county website and signing up online on the health department page.
The health department now gives vaccines to anyone 18 and older, whether or not they live in the county.
