Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 21

3:37 p.m. — A 95-year-old woman having trouble walking at a residence in the 200 block of E. 5th St., Florence, was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance. Florence ambulance was paged but did not respond.

9:47 p.m. — A 94-year-old woman who woke up feeling hot, dry-heaving, and anxious at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to Newton Medical Center by Peabody ambulance.

10:08 p.m. — A person who suffered what were rated as possibly life-threatening injuries in a one-car accident near Sunset and 180th Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters and rescue squad members also were sent to the accident.

10:32 p.m. — A 35-year-old man who fell in a shower in the 300 block of W. B St., Hillsboro, was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:21 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Kansas Health Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

JULY 22

2:32 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:29 p.m. — A 36-year-old woman who reportedly wasn’t breathing was declared dead in the 400 block of Grandview St., Florence. Marion and Florence ambulances were dispatched.. When Florence ambulance did not respond, Florence firefighters were called to help with resuscitation. The county’s ambulance director and Hillsboro ambulance, returning from Wichita, both diverted to the scene as well, and the ambulance director called for a sheriff’s deputy to respond as well. Hillsboro ambulance remained on the scene until 6:07 p.m.

5:47 p.m. — Marion ambulance left Florence to transfer a St. Luke patient to Newton Med. The transfer had been called in 4:24 p.m. but delayed because Hillsboro ambulance was out of the county.

6:16 p.m. — A diabetic man was taken by Peabody ambulance to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado, from a residence near 50th Rd. and US-77. Hillsboro ambulance, still in the vicinity, also responded. Burns first responders did not answer a page. A Hillsboro ambulance attendant accompanied the patient to El Dorado, and the ambulance remained in Peabody until the attendant returned at 8:28 p.m. It arrived back in Hillsboro at 9:14 p.m., almost seven hours after its initial call to transfer a patient to Wichita.

THURSDAY

12:24 a.m. — At the request of a sheriff’s deputy, Peabody ambulance was sent to the 200 block of W. 6th St. for a confused pregnant woman who had stopped taking medication. She was taken to St. Luke. Florence ambulance was paged but did not answer.

12:56 p.m. — An elderly woman who slipped and injured a leg while taking out trash in the 200 block of N. Maple St., Peabody, was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

11:27 p.m. — Three people reportedly injured in an accident on K-15 south of US-56 declined to be taken to a hospital. Marion and Hillsboro ambulances and Hillsboro firefighters and rescue squad members were dispatched to the accident.

FRIDAY

6:09 a.m. — A 46-year-old woman with abdominal pain and diarrhea was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from 200 block of W. 6th St., Florence. The initial call was to a non-existent address several blocks away. Florence ambulance was paged but did not respond.

SATURDAY

12:12 pm. — A 81-year-old man was transferred from St. Luke to Kansas Heart by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance relocated to Marion during a portion of the call.

6:09 p.m. — A 64-year-old man with a high fever and difficulty breathing after recently being hospitalized was taken by Tampa ambulance to St. Luke from a residence near 290th and Xavier Rds. In making the call, dispatchers employed code words known to be associated with suspected COVID-19 cases. Ambulance attendants rated the patient’s condition as potentially life-threatening. Lincolnville first responders did not answer a page, but a Lincolnville firefighter was called to help lift the patient.

10:06 p.m. — What appeared to be the same patient from the 6:09 p.m. call was transferred to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, after ambulance attendants were told they must “gown up.”

SUNDAY

8:18 a.m. — A 92-year-old man who suffered chest pains at Bethesda Home, Goessel, was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. A first responder from Goessel assisted with the call. Dispatchers initially were unable to reach Hillsboro ambulance but a Marion ambulance attendant relayed the message to them.

4:27 p.m. — A 58-year-old man with abdominal pain was taken by Marion ambulance to Newton Med from a residence in the 200 block of E. 4th St., Peabody. Peabody ambulance was not called. The call initially went to Hillsboro ambulance, but a Marion ambulance attendant switched it to Marion ambulance. The ambulance then had difficulty locating the residence and had to be directed by relayed instructions from a 911 caller.

9:39 p.m. — A woman in the 400 block of E. Marion Ave., Goessel, was helped up by a Goessel first responder and Goessel firefighters after she told a medical alarm company she was uninjured but needed assistance. Hillsboro ambulance initially was called but was told to disregard the call after the woman declined to be transported by ambulance.

monday

3:34 a.m. — A 18-year-old male who was having a seizure in the 300 block of N. Ash St., Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:09 a.m. — A 22-year-old woman who was having seizures in the 1000 block of Marion St., Florence, was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence first responders were paged but did not respond.

6:42 a.m. — A 18-year-old HCH patient was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:45 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.
