Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 13

2:16 a.m. — A man with cardiac issues in the 300 block of S. 1st St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

8:24 a.m. — An 80-year-old man with mobility and speech difficulties and a history of stroke was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from a farmhouse on 110th Rd. between Union and Wagonwheel Rds.

8:14 p.m. — A woman injured when a vehicle overturned at 170th and Pawnee Rds. was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. A second, possibly injured person declined to be taken to a hospital. Marion firefighters and rescue squad members also were dispatched.

8:58 p.m. — A driver with heatstroke symptoms declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance after he was stopped by Butler County deputies on US-77 just north of Burns. Burns firefighters and first responders assisted with the call. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched, but that call was quickly canceled.

JULY 14

12:05 a.m. — A 47-year-old woman complaining of general pain was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 200 block of W. 6th St. in Florence. Florence first responders were paged but did not answer.

9:25 a.m. — A 70-year-old man initially reported to be having trouble breathing was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital from an apartment in the 100 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro. Hillsboro ambulance transported the patient, but because it had been in Marion at the time of the call, Hillsboro first responders also were dispatched. After prompting dispatchers to provide an apartment number, first responders indicated that the patient was not having difficulty breathing but was retaining fluids and had been instructed by his physician to go to the hospital to receive an injection.

2:34 p.m. — A 68-year-old man with symptoms of a heart attack at Main and Vernon Sts. in Lehigh was taken to HCH then transferred to Newton Medical Center by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:05 p.m. — Two people, one with a bloody nose, involved in a fist fight outside a residence on Eastmoor Dr. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. The ambulance initially stood by some distance away until Marion police and two sheriff’s deputies determined it was safe to proceed.

11:02 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to an apartment in the 400 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro to assist a woman who was having trouble putting in eye drops after surgery. Ambulance attendants had to prompt dispatchers to explain what kind of assistance was being sought.

THURSDAY

12:03 a.m. — At the request of a sheriff’s deputy, Marion ambulance was called to the county jail to check a woman who was complaining of chest pains and blood pressure problems after being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident in McPherson County. Ambulance attendants had to prompt dispatchers to provide information about why they were being asked to report to the jail. The woman declined to be taken to a hospital and was booked into the jail.

9:38 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell in the 700 block of Peabody St. in Peabody and cut her arm declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance, which had been called because Peabody ambulance was not available.

7:16 p.m. — A 42-year-old man who was bitten on the leg by a dog in the 200 block of N. Sycamore St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance. Peabody police had requested the ambulance.

FRIDAY

No ambulance or fire calls.

SATURDAY

11:02 a.m. — A 64-year-old woman with abnormal breathing who was too weak to get out of bed was taken by Marion ambulance from the 300 block of W. 4th St. in Florence to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado.

7:19 p.m. — A Salem Homes patient was transferred to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

7:49 p.m. — Three people involved in a one-vehicle accident on US-77 south of 180th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:51 p.m. — A man who fell inside a locked residence in the 600 block of Wichita St. in Lincolnville and could not get up was assisted by Lincolnville first responders and firefighters summoned to gain entry to the house. The man declined to be taken to a hospital by Tampa ambulance.

MONDAY

1:43 p.m. — A volunteer Marion Reservoir caretaker with symptoms of heat stroke was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance after her daughter called from Andover and reported her mother’s condition.

5:57 p.m. — A vomiting resident of Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

6:54 p.m. — An 84-year-old Salem Homes resident was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Med for a x-ray.
