Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JUNE 14

12:10 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

2:24 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance responded to a call about a 66-year-old woman experiencing chest pains in the 200 block of S. Buller St. in Goessel. First responders from Goessel also were paged but apparently did not answer. Whether the woman was transported to a hospital or declined transport was not recorded by either the main or the backup monitoring equipment maintained by the newspaper.

3:03 a.m. — A medic on Hillsboro ambulance asked that a 69-year-old man be transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital, Wichita.

7:50 a.m. — A 68-year-old woman with altered consciousness and trouble breathing was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, Newton, from a farmhouse near 130th and Goldenrod Rds. A Goessel first responder joined the ambulance crew for the trip.

9:47 a.m. — After initial confusion over the location and which ambulances to assign, a 60-year-old woman released from a hospital the day before was taken by Tampa ambulance to HCH from the 300 block of N. C St. in Ramona. An off-duty medic from Ramona assisted until the ambulance and a shift supervisor arrived.

10:34 a.m. — A 25-year-old man with a non-critical orthopedic issue was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

2:58 p.m. — A 74-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance on a non-emergency basis from St. Luke to Newman Regional Health, Emporia.

3:12 p.m. — A man stopped by Burns police at a rented home in the 400 block of N. Winfield Ave. in Burns on suspicion of having a suspended driver’s license and being wanted on warrants from Park City and Colorado developed chest pains and was checked by Burns first responders and Peabody ambulance attendants. He was not taken into custody and declined to be taken to a hospital.

7:46 p.m. — Florence firefighters extinguished a fire in a truck with a bulk tank in its cargo bed at Flying Eagle Truck Stop in Florence.

7:55 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman who fell and hurt her hand and shoulder at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by the county’s backup ambulance, based in Hillsboro.

9:12 p.m. — A 22-year-old woman with an inoperable hernia and suffering abdominal pain in a restroom at Wendy’s in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

JUNE 15

12:24 a.m. — An uninjured 87-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 100 block of N. Adams St. in Hillsboro was helped up by medics from Hillsboro ambulance after they were told where to find a key to the locked residence. The woman declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:06 a.m. — A bleeding elbow on the same 90-year-old woman who fell the day before at Parkside Homes was checked by medics from Hillsboro ambulance. The woman declined to be taken to a hospital.

10:40 p.m. — An uncooperative, intoxicated woman, inexplicably bleeding from her arm and leg as she left Casey’s General Store in Hillsboro on foot, was located by Hillsboro police and taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

Half an hour later, Hillsboro and Marion police and sheriff’s deputies following a trail of blood from the store found a man lying face down and bleeding at an entryway to a nearby residence. First responders from Hillsboro were called along with Marion ambulance, but Hillsboro ambulance finished its first trip to HCH in time to also take the man to HCH.

An hour and a half after the initial call, the same ambulance transferred the female victim from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

THURSDAY

10:06 a.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was helped up but declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:56 a.m. — A 62-year-old man with gastrointestinal issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

12:55 p.m. — With Marion ambulance not yet back from Wichita, a 78-year-old man who fell and gashed his head at Casey’s General Store in Marion was checked by the county’s ambulance director before Hillsboro ambulance arrived. The man declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:37 p.m. — Marion ambulance returned to the 500 block of S. Cedar St. to help to the same resident get from a toilet onto a wheelchair. She again declined to be taken to a hospital.

6:29 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on a non-emergency basis to Wesley.

7:01 p.m. — At her family’s request, a 96-year-old woman complaining of dehydration at Parkside Homes was transferred to HCH by Marion ambulance.

7:11 p.m. — Marion firefighters took nearly two hours to extinguish a tractor fire south of 250th and Remington Rd.

11:11 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Wesley by an Eagle Med helicopter ambulance.

FRIDAY

9:58 a.m. — A 90-year-old Cedar Point woman with a possibly fractured hip was transferred at the US-50/77 roundabout in Florence from a Chase County ambulance to Marion ambulance for transport to NMC.

2:34 p.m. — A 92-year-old man hallucinating at a home on Kruse Dr. at Eastshore initially declined to be taken to a hospital or to go to one by private vehicle. Medics asked for sheriff’s officers to help. After talking to the sheriff and undersheriff, the patient agreed to be taken by Marion ambulance to McPherson Center for Health.

5:33 p.m. — Four people who said they weren’t injured in a one-vehicle accident on 240th Rd. half a mile west of K-15 were checked by medics from Hillsboro ambulance and declined to be taken to a hospital. Hillsboro rescue squad and firefighters also were dispatched, arriving within nine minutes of the initial call. Hillsboro ambulance did not arrive until almost half an hour after the initial call. Marion ambulance also was dispatched but opted to disregard the call after hearing from dispatchers than none of the people were injured.

7:09 p.m. — A 54-year-old man suffering seizures in a field along US-56/77 between 320th and 330th Rds. was taken to Herington Hospital by Marion ambulance. Tampa ambulance and a first responder from Lincolnville assisted with the call.

11:59 p.m. —Hay bales on fire at 290th and Timber Rds. were determined by Lincolnville firefighters to be an intentional burn that could not spread.

SATURDAY

1:53 a.m. —A report of a gas leak in the 300 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to pose no problems.

8:10 a.m. — A person at Casey’s General Store in Hillsboro fell, was helped up by medics from Hillsboro ambulance, and declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:14 p.m. — Burns firefighters helped battle a fire near Potwin in Butler County.

2:36 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters spent nearly two hours pulling a stranded boat to shore at Marion Reservoir.

3:59 p.m. — A 56-year-old woman who threw out her back in the 400 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

5:50 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Salina Regional Health Center.

10:45 p.m. — A Hillsboro police officer processing evidence from the incident involving the tracking of a blood trail earlier in the week went to the Hillsboro ambulance station to be checked for possible exposure to fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine.

SUNDAY

3:49 p.m. — Peabody ambulance checked a man in the 400 block of N. Maple St. in Peabody whom Peabody police described as very confused. The man declined to be taken to a hospital.

MONDAY

4:42 a.m. — A 95-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 100 block of Elm St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:13 a.m. — A 92-year-old woman who fell at a farmhouse near 70th and Goldenrod Rds. and suffered a severe nosebleed was taken to NMC by Peabody ambulance. First responders from Goessel were paged but did not answer. An ambulance attendant asked dispatchers to relay a report on the patient to NMC because medics could not stop applying pressure to stop bleeding. Dispatchers were told, however, that NMC would not accept a relayed report.

8:56 p.m. — A 63-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Newman Regional.
