Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
APRIL 15
11:07 a.m. — With Marion ambulance and a backup ambulance in Hillsboro for repairs, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a medical alarm in the 400 block of W. 6th St. in Florence, but the call was canceled as a false alarm before the ambulance arrived.
APRIL 16
10:56 a.m. — A 93-year-old woman who fell and hurt her shoulder outside of Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:26 p.m. — A 42-year-old woman with a low potassium level was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Its departure delayed, the ambulance did not return to Marion until 10:58 p.m.
THURSDAY
1:06 a.m. — An 80-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:13 a.m.
11:56 a.m. — A 94-year-old woman with an altered level of consciousness was examined by Marion ambulance attendants but decided to go instead by private vehicle from Peabody Health and Rehab to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.
8:05 p.m. — A carbon monoxide alarm at a farmhouse on 310th Rd. between Upland and Vista Rds. was determined by Lincolnville and Lost Springs firefighters to have been caused by a faulty detector.
FRIDAY
1:52 a.m. — A man in his 80s who fell more than four hours earlier at a home on Random Rd. at Marion County Lake declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A Marion firefighter also responded in a private vehicle.
1:06 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 3:48 p.m.
4:23 p.m. — An EagleMed helicopter ambulance transferred a patient from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
6:13 p.m. — A 91-year-old man with general weakness and arm pain at a farmhouse near 110th and Mustang Rds. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:04 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman who fell at Parkside Homes was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SATURDAY
11:51 a.m. — A man whose dentures penetrated his jaw at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
SUNDAY
4:06 a.m. — A 59-year-old woman who fell at an Oakwood Manor apartment in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
2:10 p.m. — Although the call originally went to Hillsboro ambulance, a 67-year-old man with low blood pressure and low blood sugar was transferred by Marion ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion sometime after reporting a stalled vehicle at 6:21 p.m. at 190th and Kanza Rds.
MONDAY
2:54 p.m. — A fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody was determined by Peabody firefighters to have been caused by an accident with a popcorn machine.
4:12 p.m. — A driver possibly injured when a car hit a bridge on Falcon Rd. north of 180th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters, the county’s interim ambulance director, and Marion ambulance all briefly responded as well.
6:46 p.m. — A 20-year-old woman with abdominal pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:30 p.m.
10:18 p.m. — A grass fire initially reported as being at a nonexistent address of 1st St. and Nighthawk Rd. and later as being at 60th and Old Mill Rds. was not found by Peabody firefighters and sheriff’s deputies.
10:43 p.m. — A 36-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 100 block of W. 6th in Florence was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance. A Florence firefighter helped lift her. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:16 a.m.
