FFA members receive district awards

Five Marion/Florence FFA members were recognized as award winners at a recent South Central District FFA banquet at Buhler High School.

Cade Harms won in beef entrepreneurship. He sells registered Angus, Charolais, and Red Angus bulls in conjunction with his parent’s seed stock operation. Harms also was recognized as Star District Farmer in production.

Carley Stapleford received a proficiency award in diversified horticulture. She works for Aunt Bee’s, where she makes floral arrangements, makes deliveries, assists customers, and helps in the greenhouse. She also helps in her family’s large garden at home.

Kaitlyn Goebel received a proficiency award in small animal production and care for raising and selling rabbits. Does she breeds produce offspring sold at local farm supply stores and online. Goebel also was district winner in veterinary science for her work at Animal Health Center of Marion.

Jarret McLinden received a proficiency award in agriculture mechanics design and fabrication, in part for his work at 4M ranch. McLinden has helped modify several trucks to be used for fire suppression and pasture burning, and also helped to build fence.

Harms and Aidan Cairns were recognized for qualifying for state FFA degrees.

Cairns served as district treasurer and helped organize the banquet and present awards.

District winners received plaques and cash awards from Kansas FFA Foundation.
